Welcome

 Esteemed Sock Burners

As a friend, neighbor, coworker, or fellow yachtey your safety and the safety of your loved ones is our top priority. As such we have been monitoring the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation very carefully.  With the Vernal Equinox and our Sock Burning party approaching quickly, and in light of the risks of potentially accelerating the spread, the potential difficulties around travel, and in consideration of general public health and safety, we have decided to cancel this event.

We are very sorry to miss the opportunity to connect with you in person and share this unique tradition.

With regards to the gracious contributions that many of you have made for the New Albany Community Foundation, Debbie and I will be matching your gift and presenting the donation to Craig Moore following the Vernal Equinox (March 19th). For those that would prefer a refund, please feel free to request one prior to that date.

Please contact us at rwmcmunn@gmail.com at any time if you have any questions or concerns. We sincerely hope to be able to gather in person soon.

Thank you!

Sailors at Heart

Sock burning is our favorite quirky sailors’ tradition discovered in our travels while Rich served over 20 years as a Submarine Officer in the US Navy. We have enjoyed sharing this fun event each year on the vernal equinox with friends and family ever since. Originating in Annapolis, MD, sailors trade in their warm winter socks for boat shoes and flip flops, encouraging us all to get out and enjoy the great outdoors with the promise of warm weather to come. After retiring from the Navy, our family lived aboard our sailboat for over a year. We explored the US East Coast and the Caribbean before returning to the US where Rich started his next career in Data Centers, bringing the family (and Google!) to settle here in New Albany. We are so grateful for the heartfelt welcome the community has given us, and would like to invite you into our home as we toast to a new Spring and new friends!
